Library at Night

A yearning for sensory palpability of abstract knowledge led me to examining the library as a site of inquiry. This collection of photos is an attempt to see through the library, looking for moments of rupture in the skin of its appearance. These moments are transporting portals akin to the open pages of a book, a format I mirror in my photographic frame and the folded installation of these images. Most of these pictures are taken at or near closing time of the library, adding a sense of indeterminacy to the project and questioning the relationship of an individual with the folds and nooks of an institution. For me, these images hold both a romantic appeal of the solitary library as well as the fear of erasure and oblivion inherent in any archive.
